Look at me actually keeping up with a series on my blog, look at me go!
Everyone was so supportive and enjoyed last month’s playlist, so of course, here is the songs I have played the most this February, and the Spotify playlist!
20) Valentine- 5 Seconds of Summer
Fitting right? Was trying to get myself in a mood where I was Valentine’s Day ready, and this seemed fitting enough, while also fitting with my own views on Valentine’s Day: love the person you’re with all year around. Throw the loose teddy bears and yes, even the chocolate eclairs away. Love your person all year round, not just when Hallmark tell you.
19) Heart of Novacaine- Halestorm
This fucking song! It hits me right where it fucking hurts, it gets me every time. Lizzy Hale’s voice is incredible on it, she has such control and everything seems precise and done on purpose. Their last album kind of just appeared, so if you haven’t heard it, at least give this song a listen.
18) needy- Ariana Grande
After my post on the track by track review, I think this one was one a lot of people will have guessed. It’s catchy, it’s poppy, and it’s fucking good lyrically. I find myself listening to it when I can’t sleep actually… Or at least when I should be asleep and I’m not.
17) Invisible- 5 Seconds of Summer
This song means a fucking lot to me and has done since the album came out a good 2/3 years ago and it was a song I always felt I could relate to in a way. This month, I also booked a tattoo with lyrics from the song on it: it’d been drawn up years, and it felt like the right time to do it.
16) I Wanna Be Like You- The Jungle Book Soundtrack
So already this is nothing like what is on the rest of the list. But, I love it. It’s so happy and upbeat and I’ve always loved how almost in your face it is. Jungle Book is one of my all time favourite Disney films, so I knew Disney would creep into my lists at one point.
15) Break My Heart- Hey Violet
So, I love Hey Violet: they’re the perfect mix of pop and pop punk and something fun to listen to. This was the song that got me into them. I got the album for Christmas and it’s been in pretty heavy rotation since.
This song is one that surprised me; she’s begging to know what heartbreak feels like. Instead of pleading to be with someone, she’s pleading that he breaks up with her. It was different and it caught my attention.
14) Touch too Much- AC/DC
Listen to this and I dare you to not feel like you could take over the world. I dare you to listen to AC/DC in general and not feel like that actually. It’s been a pretty good month for me, but there has been times where I’ve needed a boost, and I listened to this. It picks me up and I do feel badass and sexy and powerful.
13) Love Shot- The Blue Van
I found this song YEARS ago and kind of forgot about it. When I did my ‘Shuffle My Old Playlist’ post, I found this after I looked through my old downloads and it’s great. It has a similar effect on me than Touch too Much, but this one isn’t because of the lyrics: the guitar in the beginning is what’ll do it for you.
12) Whole Lotta Love- Led Zeppelin
I just listen to this song a lot in general. I think Led Zeppelin are fucking brilliant and it surprised me when they weren’t on my list last month. Again, I think they’re a band that does just give you a boost. There’s something about classic rock that just makes me happy and drags me out of whatever mood I’m in.
11) Enter Sandman- Metallica
There is actually a story for this one: I had the line ‘We’re off to never-neverland’ stuck in my head for days. So, in typical Nia fashion, I just listened to p the song until it went away… It didn’t work and I had the whole song stuck in my head then, but there’s worse things to have stuck in your head.
10) Who Do You Love?- The Chainsmokers and 5 Seconds of Summer
Reason one for this is I reviewed it. If I’m reviewing something, it’s on repeat so I can do a half decent job of it. The other reason is, despite the reasons I didn’t like it, I also did like it a lot because I loved the lyrics. I relate to them, I understand them. I may not have loved the song, but I did like it a lot.
9) Heaven’s Gate- Fall Out Boy
I did not really like Mania as an album. I know, I’m a disgrace to every emo kid out there. BUT, there were a few gems on this album, and Heaven’s Gate was one of them. Patrick Stump’s voice is phonomenal on it, and I think that’s why I love the song. Just his voice is mind-blowing on it and I’m in awe of his range.
8) Bulletproof Heart- My Chemical Romance
Do I win my emo kid points back yet? Yes, I know, it was the album most hated because it was nothing like what they had done before, but I fucking loved it for that reason. It’s just fun and so cleverly done and written. The concept album is difficult to pull off and I think they nailed it. This is just a really fun song, and I love how happy it sounds. With the sun coming out, it just added that bit extra bounce in my step.
7) Still Into You- Paramore
Look here, this is the kind of realistic but happy, non-toxic love we all deserve. This was always one of my favourite songs on the self titled album and it still is. Yes, they drifted from their more pop punk roots and just dived into pop, but they did it well. This will always be a song I listen to when I need cheering up, but also when I’m already happy.
6) Turn the Page- Bob Segar
Fun fact- this is the same as the Metallica song, if you’re wondering why it was the same name or wondering where you’ve seen the name. As good as the Metallica version is, there’s something soothing about Bob Segar’s version. If you need to calm down, I’d say listen to this. I’m a HUGE fan, I think more people should know about him.
5) Hooked on a Feelin’- Blue Suede
Many people ask if this is a guilty pleasure and no, no it is not, I have no shame in listening to this. If you don’t smile at least a little when you hear this then you might need some help. Even if you just smile or laugh because the song is ridiculous- it puts a smile on your face.
4) Closer- Nine Inch Nails
This is one of my favourite songs. It’s very dark, it’s very sexual and not for anyone under 18 to listen to (oops, I’ve been listening since I was about 13) and it’s utter filth; we complain about sex in music now, but this is another level. I have no idea why I listened to this so much, but I can say it’s one of my favourites and I forgot how much I loved it.
3) Man in Black- Johnny Cash
I’ve missed Johnny Cash. I’ve missed how miserable he is but how he gives you so much hope. I’ve missed listening to that voice like honey. I forgot how much I’d loved listening to him because I couldn’t for so long. If you’ve somehow never heard him, go listen because it’s an experience.
2) Sorry, Not Sorry- Demi Lovato
I forgot that this was an anthem. This came on when I saw someone I used to be infatuated with… Now I wonder why. It’s just a happy song and after coming out of a relationship and I’m no longer moping, it’s the bop I need.
1) Lie to Me- 5 Seconds of Summer
This makes me cry and sob and I’m so sorry I didn’t give it the recognition it deserved when I first heard the album. The acoustic is even worse. If you want a proper review, I’m gonna link you to the track by track review.
Hope you enjoyed the list. Any stand out songs for you last month? Let me know!
Stay safe and stay happy ❤️
